Growing up, I lived in what Angelinos call “The Valley”, or, as you might know it, the San Fernando Valley. However, I had the privilege of living right off of Mulholland Dr., placing me a mere 10 minutes from the West Side. I 100% took advantage of this growing up, exploring Westwood with a friend that lived there or heading towards the beach.
An area that I have always particularly loved is Santa Monica. For me it has it all; hip cafes and boutiques on Main Street, all of your favorite shops on the outdoor 3rd Street, and of course, the ocean. Today I wanted to share everything I like to do to spend a perfect day in Santa Monica, one that goes from early morning shopping to watching the sun fade into the horizon. Enjoy!
» Morning «
Begin your morning on Main Street. I grab a coffee at one of the numerous cafés on the road, and like to hop in and out of shops. I particularly love the Max Studio Outlet, I always stock up on clothes for work events. There are also several boutiques and design shops, along with a plethora of vintage stores.
» Afternoon «
In the afternoon, I like to head over to 3rd St. Usually I’ll just grab lunch here (I love the Hummus Bar or the classic Johnny Rockets), or head down later to the water with something to-go to eat on the beach. Then, I catch up on my shopping. There are so many stores here that I love that you don’t get a lot in other places around LA, such as Uniqlo, Madewell and Nasty Gal. Another store that I love is called Hennessey + Ingalls, a bookstore dedicated entirely to the visual arts.
» Evening «
As soon as the sky starts changing color, I like to head down to the beach. For me, there’s nothing better than watching the sun set into the ocean with sand in your toes. Also, this is southern California we’re talking about, so you can literally enjoy it year-round. If you’re up for dealing with a crowd, you can get an incredible view from the Santa Monica pier as well. I enjoyed both, having a picnic on the beach before going up and shooting these photos with a friend!
I hope that you guys enjoyed this post! I’m back in snowy Munich now, and am enjoying every minute. Hope everybody has had a successful start into 2017. xo Julia
