2016 was an interesting one. Two years ago, at the end of 2014, I said that 2014 was the best year of my life. One year ago, I said that 2015 was the best year of my life. This year, I can’t say that 2016 has been the best year of my life, but I do think the most important one so far.
2016 was kind of the year where everything settled down. I didn’t change countries (as I had done the previous two years), but rather kept on building the life I had started creating for myself in Munich in 2015. This year I truly came to feel at home in a new place. My friendships are rock-solid (and I’m thankful for them every day), I have my job, and I go to class. The routine is settled in, however, there were always lots of fun moments and travels seeing new and old friends across Europe. I’m a lot more sure of myself now, and am excited for the growth in the year to come.
2017 is already shaping up to be a busy year. I’m moving back to Los Angeles February-April to work in a PR Agency, I’m so excited for this time and am curious to see what it will be like to spend so much time in the mother-land again. I’ve set my travel goals, in 2017 I’m hoping to visit Prague, Dublin and Copenhagen for the first time, along with revisit my old favorite Paris and Berlin again. Plus, I will attend my first music festival this year, and I’m saving up to travel around Europe this summer.
And now a brief roundup of my year, I loved reflecting on it while writing this post, and realized that it was a lot more busy than I had thought it was. Enjoy, and Happy New Year. Here’s to a great 2017!
» January «
→ January was spent studying and enjoying my first proper winter. I was super stressed because of exams, and was in the library until 10PM almost every day. My favorite moment was when my best friends and I took a study break one day to have a photoshoot in the snow. We got the most wonderful photos in the gardens behind our apartment!
» February «
→ February finals finally wrapped up. I spent the first week after my finals in bed, just watching television all day. However, soon I was off to Italy for a week, visiting both Verona and Venice for the first time with a good friend.
» March «
→ March was a travel month. First I went to Berlin with a large group of friends; I love the city and had a great time exploring new places. About a week later I then headed to Paris with my closest friends from my year there. I would say that this week was one of my favorites of the entire year; it felt so so good to be back in the city I had grown to love so much the year before.
» April «
→ April marked the start of my second semester at college. I settled back into the routine of things, it was a quiet month.
» May «
→ May I took a week off of Uni to travel around Germany with two of my closest friends. It was incredible, I saw Lake Constance for the first time (jaaa Bodensee!) and celebrated two 20th birthdays in separate German cities within one weekend. It was so good to spend the time with old friends again.
» June «
→ June was also super exciting, as two of my closest friends came and saw me in Munich. I loved showing them around my new home, and, just as I had realized in May, it was so incredible to spend time with people that have known me for so many years.
» July «
→ July the time to study for exams rolled around again, but this time I didn’t stress as much, as you can see above. 😉 I enjoyed countless nights BBQing with friends, afternoons tanning in the gardens and many dinners on my balcony. At the end of the month after I had finished my exams, I joined my family in the Northern part of Germany, where we vacationed for three weeks, into August.
» August «
→ August I finally got to come home to LA, after having been away for 7 months. I loved my time at home seeing old friends again and exploring the city. At the end of August I headed back to Munich, refreshed and ready to get back into it.
» September «
→ September was once again busy. My best friends threw me a surprise party for my 20th birthday, and two other friends came to town just to spend my 20th with me. My dad also came and visited me in Munich, and we spent a few days walking around the city together. Towards the end of September, I traveled to Düsseldorf, Essen, Utrecht and Amsterdam, seeing not only my grandmother but also being reunited with one of my closest friends from my Paris stay. At the end of September Oktoberfest started, and I had a lovely roundup of visitors. Plus, I went hiking in the Alps!
» October «
→ In October Oktoberfest continued. Those three weeks are always some of my favorite three of the year. In October Uni also started again, and it was back to business. I was thrilled to get promoted at work, and had another visitor from home. The month ended with one of my favorite holidays, Halloween!
» November «
→ November was quite peaceful. Uni and work kept me quite busy. For Thanksgiving, me and my best friends threw a huge dinner party for all of our closest friends. Let’s just say I peeled enough potatoes for the entire year that month!
» December «
→ December started my countdown to Christmas and to coming back home to Los Angeles. I attended several holiday parties, and caught up on sleep during my first week home. And now, let’s bring on 2017!
